that AI is not good for professional coders

I just read it in a post about AI modes and available payment plans, as well as about token prices and all that stuff …

I read then a lot of comments on it with open eyes and just wondered, jeeeeee, am I totally off or are they all nuts?

then I stumbled over that unfortunate comment … what is a professional coder anyway?

if it was a profession it wouldn’t be called coder, it would have a real name

if it was an analogy to good coder the critical mass of that statement just exceeded its physical limit …

so my fingers started moving and I: don’t comment, don’t comment … but they did it anyway

but I started polite, hey, what do you mean with professional coder?

it didn’t take a minute, seemed he was ready for it and he replied: no good programmer would use that AI model anymore, that’s old and hallucinating too much

then me, still innocent, I see, but why a good programmer would use AI anyway?

he laughed back and said, you can’t do anything without AI, that’s a requirement and if you don’t, you get dismissed

well, I said, when you get fired you are not good enough, eventually wasn’t already before AI?

that then was too much and I got a bunch of nice names back

that then certainly confirmed my suspicion

don’t dismiss your I … use it hard and always, stress it, storm it, as training, that’s the rule to stay in business … specially with yourself

never accept good practices, never accept standard methods, doubt everything, build you own way, build something different, something new …

AI, by its nature, is not able to invent new methods … you can, do it …

hakka quote … We hope you stay. If not, you're always welcome back.

Do you think AI coding tools are making professional programmers more productive, or are they reducing the need for developers to deeply understand the code they write?

I believe it is the contrary, the time you have to spend to explain what you really want and get something out what fits your need it just too much, and still not counting the time you need to decode the code, AI has no sense of flow or layout, the names they use vor vars and functions are not understandable, that is not only time costly, but also annoying
well, it might be helpfull for writing small snippets or methods which you can then easy adapt to your need, but that’s all
